A Bristol boxing club plans a spectacular evening of Amateur boxing.
The National Smelting Co Amateur Boxing Club known as the 'Smelters' are staging an Amateur Boxing tournament at The Patchway Sports Centre on Thursday the 12th of February, Doors open at 7pm with the first bell at 8pm.
Informed Smelters Head Coach Garry Cave "The last show we staged in November at Patchway was our biggest yet, we had in excess of 400 paying spectators and put on a full card of both junior and senior bouts, with 14 great contests, we even had one of our ex boxers Dalton Saunders fly in all the way from Australia to box and win on the show. I'm hoping we can sell 500 tickets for this one and put 15 all action bouts on.
We've clubs all across the Southwest and Wales boxing plus local clubs Downend, Empire & Synwell it's sure to be a great nights entertainment with lots of keenly contested all action bouts featuring many up and coming prospects.
But it's not only boxing we're putting on we've Paula's Street Dance Group booked to entertain before the first bell and during the interval. They appeared on a BAWA show we did last year and they where mint. Also featuring again is Ring Card Girl the lovely Stephanie, she certainly caused a stir with her back flips across the ring at the last show!
The club is kindly requesting local businesses to sponsor bouts in return for some free ringside seats and adverts in the show program.
Any money raised from the show will go towards the completion of the new Smelters boxing gym in Avonmouth.
Said Cave " Where hopeful it will be open for business in Feb, as we've just a couple of jobs left and the sports flooring to go in.
We've just had all the electrics finished and many thanks to Lockwell Lectrics who pulled out all the stops to help us out. Everybody's getting really excited about the new gym it's been a long slog to get the Sport England funding and get the building up. We've had some fantastic help, one of the boxers Dad's Mark Shackill and his Company MS Fabrication helped us by putting the building up and all for free and we'd have never have done it without him and his lads".
This project has really pulled the club together even the junior boxers helped out by painting the gym over the Christmas Holidays."
There will be a bar, hot food, DJ and an MC to add to the entertainment.
If you want tickets contact Garry on 07876 233621, they're priced at ?10 over 16s and ?5 under 16's.
